The author would like to thank the R. Tucker Thompson Sail Training Trust for the opportunity to sail in much the same style, and in the same waters, in which Hongi Hika had done in 1814 and again in 1820, as well as filming re-enactment footage for the short film Hongi's Hikoi and also for selected scenes from the interactive historical novel Moka, Muskets & Mayhem!
The author experiences the beautiful scenery of the Bay of Islands in April 2018, as he re-enacts Hongi Hika's 1820s journey to England (1820).
